REGISTERED DIETITIAN AND CERTIFIED DIABETES CARE and EDUCATION SPECIALIST
JENNIFER CULP, MPH, RD, CDCES Jennifer is a Registered Dietitian and Diabetes Educator and has over twenty years’ experience in nutrition and diabetes. Jennifer spent over four years working for UCSF on cutting edge nutrition research studies as a research dietitian, as well as, an additional eight years working for UC Davis as a research study coordinator. In that capacity, Jennifer coordinated various research projects ranging from a content analysis to an evaluation study of nutrition education in schools.
Experience Jennifer's first job after post-graduate school introduced her to diabetes education and she has been providing diabetes education ever since. She is passionate about helping people navigate diabetes management and has been a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist since 2001.
Her diabetes experience includes outpatient counseling for patients of the Solano County Nutrition Services; helped to develop and implement a diabetes education program for Sutter Solano. The four classes at Sutter Solano focused on a different topic, which included a basic overview, nutrition, and physical activity, medications, blood glucose monitoring and sick days.
Jennifer is currently providing diabetes group education for Kaiser Permanente East Bay participants. These classes include the basics and meter training, and healthy eating with diabetes. In addition to providing diabetes education, she concurrently worked in various settings in nutrition. These ranged from a university public health department where the focus was on developing interventions to increase fruit and vegetable intake, to the CalFresh Nutrition Education Program, to a grant-funded nutrition research unit at UCSF. For Kaiser, she also facilitates groups for the Medical Weight Program (a weight loss program) and teaches a plant-based single session class and a six-week weight management class.
She volunteers as an art docent at the Oakland Museum of California (after attending a year-long training). She leads interactive school group tours with a focus on California art. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking (most recently plant-based recipes), exploring different parts of the world, hiking and crafts projects. Jennifer is a member of the American Diabetes Association.
