Diabetes has become an increasing challenge for more people every year. 1 in 9 Americans are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (30 million people), and 1 in 4 Americans have prediabetes (84 million people). Combined, that’s about 1 in 3 adults having a high blood sugar issue! Sadly, five million people will be diagnosed with diabetes each year for the next 15 years.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends that every person with diabetes receive diabetes self-management education at the time of diagnosis, and as needed throughout life (like with transitions: with insurance that may then change what medicines are covered, in health status, in care needs, or in age). Though evidence shows the benefits of getting diabetes self-management education, many people living with diabetes do not receive any. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that only a median of 54% of adults with diabetes in the U.S. attended self - management class (2015).
